Sally Meekins Miniature Ceramics is a small family business producing pieces for miniature collectors and dollshouse enthusiasts.
"I make the ceramics and my husband Steven produces the furniture. We are both B.A Hons graduates in 3D Design from Leicester Polytechnic (De Montfort University). I specialised in Ceramics and Glass and Steven studied Product Design."
During my studies I explored the history of Art & Design within the field of ceramics, and have used that knowledge to produce the period pieces I came across into 1/12th scale miniatures models. The Novelties section are my own designs,
A model is hand made by myself for each design, which is then used to produce a 2 or 3 piece plaster mould.

Slipcasting Cast piece in mould
Hand painting the slipcast pieces
When the mould is ready it is used to produce cast replicas of the original model. The cast replicas are made from a white earthenware bodied slip and using this process of slipcasting ensures that all the models are hollow, so the teapots even have hollow spouts and removeable lids. The next stage is to paint the items by hand in small batches, when I have produced enough they are fired in a kiln to 1060 degrees. This is then followed by a gloss firing, and in some cases a third firing is required with pieces that have a silver or gold lustre.
I sell my work at some of the large Dollshouse & Miniatures shows within the U.K and have also exhibited overseas. See my venues page for up and coming events.
I am now embarking on expanding my 1/24th range so if you have any requests, I'd like to hear about them!
